PolyRopes – Rope experts since 1967
Early in the morning on December 3rd, 1967, the Nilsson family is traveling in a small car on the Älvsborg Bridge. Gunvor, Börje, and little Benny have already crossed the bridge seven times this morning, and the atmosphere in the car is starting to become stressed. Börje is in a hurry to catch the flight that will take him to Portugal for a meeting with a major rope manufacturer. There is only one problem, they cannot find their way off the bridge. Sweden has just switched from left-hand to right-hand traffic.
It is this tumultuous atmosphere that marks the beginning of Polyrope’s journey. Börje and Gunvor Nilsson founded the company AB Poly-Produkter in 1967, and since then, we have been somewhat of a newcomer in Swedish rope manufacturing. Both then and now. Some people see a rope when they see a rope; not us. We see color, material, durability, and area of use. A rope is so much more than just a rope; it’s what you do with it, a solution to thousands of problems. Our ambition is to always strive for sustainable products that solve problems for our customers. We are against the ‘throw-away’ culture and want our products to last over time. The best thing we can do for the environment is to sell the product you need once. Or, at least, few times.
When production in the Western world moved to Asia, we placed value on staying in Europe, and not just Europe, but especially in Sweden. Most of our production takes place here, in Vårgårda, an hour from Gothenburg. With over 55 years of experience, we know what it takes to deliver all types of ropes to the highest quality. With our own manufacturing and sales, we can offer short lead times, customized production, and fast deliveries. This makes us a one-stop shop when it comes to ropes.

Our timeline:
1967 – Börje and Gunvor Nilsson found AB Poly-Produkter.
1980 – His son Benny takes over the company.
1985 – The factory in Vårgårda is built and PolyRopes is adopted as a brand.
2009 – The third Nilsson generation joins the company when Kristoffer is hired.
2011 – Our revolutionary Storm tamp with built-in shock absorption is launched.
2020 – We launch our new e-commerce site poly.se.
2022 – The number of brands is reduced from five to two, one for rope and boating; and one for agriculture.
