Most frequently asked questions about Toptex Boat Cover
The Toptex Boat Cover really took the market by storm in 2023! There were many reasons why it did so.
In this article we will answer the most frequently asked questions about Toptex Boat Cover and why you need one.
Is Toptex Boat Cover waterproof?
No, Toptex Boat Cover is not fully waterproof – and that’s deliberate. It allows a small amount of water and a large amount of air to pass through to prevent mold growth. After a downpour, the boat may seem wet, but within a few hours the water is gone. The canvas breathes and keeps the boat fresh and dry.
Does it really last?
It holds up very well, because the tarpaulin does not move in windy conditions! However, there are some things you should consider when installing your canvas/tarpaulin. If you are aware that you have sharp edges, habits or screws that can scratch the canvas, there may be small holes in the canvas. Therefore, you should check this as a preventive measure. Try to protect the sharp edges with e.g. tennis balls.
If holes do appear, they can be repaired. Preferably with an extra piece of cloth that you spray with spray glue.
Can I sew into the canvas?
Yes, you absolutely can. Nothing strange at all.
Do I need to have the ‘right angle’ on the screen for it to work?
Yes, for best results you should have an angle of at least 45°. If you have too small an angle on your Toptex Boat Cover, rain and snow will not fall off the canvas as intended. What happens is that pockets can form in the fabric where rain and snow collect. Therefore, you should follow our recommendations on how to best install your canvas/boat tarpaulin.
How well does Toptex Boat Cover handle snow and storms?
It handles snow and storms very well. However, as mentioned above, it is important that the canvas is at the right angle so that the snow can fall off. Strong winds are no problem either, as the wind blows right through the canvas.
Is the fabric water and moisture repellent?
Yes, the fabric is water and moisture repellent, but in heavy rain and wind, a small amount of water will be pushed through the fabric. But as soon as the weather calms down, it starts to dry up again, thanks to the fact that the canvas is not wind- and waterproof. In other words, you don’t have to worry about water damage, corrosion or mold.
How thick is the canvas?
The canvas is available in 130 grams/m² and 160 grams/m², making it a very easy-to-handle tarpaulin that does not weigh much.
There are cheaper alternatives, why should I choose Toptex Boat Cover?
This is one of the most common questions we receive. Many people compare this cloth to cheaper agricultural cloths that are made of a kind of fleece material. The difference is that these fleece suits do not breathe in the same way. They allow the same amount of water to pass through, but the fabric does not have the ability to ventilate the water out, and therefore condensation and eventually mold form.
Should my canopy remain in place during installation?
Yes, for best results you should keep the canopy on. We have been asked about mold damage to the chapel but have not yet received a complaint about this.
Can Toptex Boat Cover be recycled?
Toptex Boat Cover is made of 100% polypropylene, which means it is 100% recyclable. As you can reuse this canvas for many years, you are helping to reduce plastic mountains and environmentally harmful materials released into nature. You’ll also save money every year by not having to replace a blown tarpaulin.
