Storm mooring line – A proven & trusted choise!
The Storm mooring line is a real saviour when it comes to mooring your boat safely. Storm is an elastic mooring line where the entire rope is flexible. The rope is three stranded and made of 60% polyester and 40% shock absorbing flex fibre. In addition, the line is maximally UV treated to withstand many seasons on board. With its superb construction and superior strength, the Storm is ready to face unruly waves and harsh weather conditions. This line has a superpower: the ability to hold your boat safely and securely in place.
Multiple best-in-test winner!
As experts in mooring lines, we are proud to say that the Storm mooring line has been proven time and again to be superior in tests conducted by Praktiskt Båtägande. Back in 2014, Storm was awarded the title of Best in Test in the magazine’s evaluation of fixed moorings. It was the only rope that not only withstood the stresses it was subjected to, but even exceeded the documented breaking strength. As an added benefit, Storm was also the most cost-effective product in the test, emphasising that quality does not always have to be expensive.
Five years later, in autumn 2019, we did it again. The Storm mooring line was once again voted Best in Test in Praktiskt Båtägande’s comprehensive test of mooring ropes. With the highest overall score, Storm was again named the test winner, confirming its reliable performance over time.
We are pleased to offer you a mooring line that has not only been awarded and praised by experts, but also proven to be by far the best solution for safely mooring your boat. You can read more about our outstanding products and the results of the tests in Praktiskt Båtägande no 9 2014 and no 9 2019 and in DagensBåtliv.
The mooring line with a difference!
Thanks to the elasticity of the Storm, boat owners don’t need extra shock absorbers. The rope has a braided appearance, a patented seam at the eye, secured rope end and double wear protection (one in the eye of the rope, and one adjustable along the line). The adjustable protective sleeve allows you to protect your mooring line where it is often subject to chafing and other stresses. Thanks to these features, you get a very affordable and durable mooring line, which is well suited for fixed mooring or in natural harbours. The rope sinks in water.
The difference between Storm and StormX?
The only difference between Storm and StormX is their appearance. The mooring line Storm is three-stranded and StormX is braided. This makes the Storm rope easier to splice. The StormX mooring line is available in more colours. The shock absorption is the same, as is the breaking strength. Both lines work as fixed moorings and in natural harbours.
Do not over-dimension the rope
It may feel unfamiliar to not need such a thick dimension on your mooring line. Storm is very strong, which means you can usually go for a lower dimension. Perhaps it feels scary? But you can rest assured. In fact, an oversized mooring rope will cause the rope to have the opposite effect and may be perceived as mute. An elastic mooring line needs the weight of the boat to work. If the size of the rope is too large, it will not feel like there is a boat attached at the other end, and the jerk of the boat may feel harsh. The mooring line will not be able to utilise its soft flexing abilities. Remember, too, that if the forces are enormous, the dock and fittings will probably be broken before the rope breaks.
Therefore, follow our recommendation table for the best experience and functionality.
Vilken dimension ska jag ha?
Båtvikt | Dimension | Förtöjningslina |
<1 ton | 10 mm | Storm |
1,1-2,9 ton | 12 mm | Storm & StormX |
3,0-5,9 ton | 14 mm | Storm & StormX |
6,0-11,9 ton | 16 mm | Storm & StormX |
8,0-12,9 ton | 15 mm | Dockline |
12,0-16,0 ton | 18 mm | Storm & StormX |
13,0-17,9 ton | 19 mm | Dockline |
>18 ton | 24 mm | Dockline |
Add a mooring compensator below 50 cm rope length.
If the line is shorter than 50 cm between the boat and the dock, we recommend adding a Bungy mooring spring. This is to help the rope to flex in an optimal way. If the rope is longer than 50 cm between the boat and the dock, it will have more room to flex on its own and you won’t need to buy an extra shock absorber.
